Abstract

This study assessed the effectiveness of short reading selection as a strategy in enhancing the reading comprehension skills of Grade 5 learners in the public elementary schools of Bagulin District, Division of La Union during the school year 2024-2025 involving seventeen (17) Grade 5 reading teachers and fourteen (14) school administrators.

The objectives of short reading selection as a strategy for enhancing the reading comprehension skills of Grade 5 learners were perceived as "moderately attained." The short reading selection was perceived to be "moderately effective" in enhancing the reading comprehension skills of Grade 5 learners. The use of short reading selection had a "moderate impact" on the reading comprehension performance of Grade 5 learners. The challenges encountered in using short reading selection to enhance the reading comprehension skills of Grade 5 learners were perceived to be "moderately serious." The suggested measures to address the challenges encountered in using short reading selection to enhance the reading comprehension skills of Grade 5 learners were perceived to be "highly applicable." There was a significant difference between the perceptions of the teachers and school administrators on the extent of impact of using short reading selection on the reading comprehension performance of Grade 5 learners.
