Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD): An Integrated Approach to Understanding, Prevention, Treatment and Management

Abstract

Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), also commonly referred to as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), is a complex hormonal and metabolic disorder primarily affecting women of reproductive age. It may present with irregular menstruation, hyperandrogenic features, weight-related problems, infertility and metabolic disturbances. Genetic predisposition, insulin resistance, hormonal imbalance, inflammation, obesity and lifestyle-related factors may contribute to its development. Management requires an individualized approach involving lifestyle modification, appropriate nutrition, physical activity, psychological support and, when indicated, medical treatment. Homeopathy is also used by qualified practitioners as an individualized therapeutic approach; however, appropriate clinical evaluation and evidence-based care for complications should not be delayed. Early recognition, patient education and long-term follow-up are important for improving quality of life and reducing health risks.
